The Bum Genius 4.0 is a one size pocket diaper. It comes with microfiber inserts and a microsuede lining. The manufacturer says it fits babies from 7 to 35 pounds, though in general it seems to be closer to 10 pounds before they fit really well. They are a little more expensive than some other diapers, but they are the best ones I have tried.
The benefit of choosing a pocket diaper is the ability to customize absorbancy. The Bum Genius has a wide pocket opening, which makes it easy to stuff with as much as your need for overnight or naps, but still fits well with just one insert for play time. It’s also easy to pre-stuff your diapers when you are sending your baby to daycare or leaving them with someone who might not be totally comfortable with cloth diapers. Changing a pocket diaper is really no different than changing a disposable diaper.
The Bum Genius has a 3 step adjustable rise to make them fit tiny babies and big toddlers all in the same diaper. The cut is a little more generous than some other diapers, which makes them bulkier than usual on a small baby, but that balances out for toddlers because they really do fit all the way through to potty training. They also come with hook and loop closures, or snaps. The snaps are great for bigger kids because they’re much harder for little fingers to take off than the hook and loop or a disposable diaper.
Overall, the Bum Genius diapers are a big initial investment, but they will save you tons on diapers in the long run and they’re better for the landfills. They’re easy to wash and dry and easy to use. And an adorable brightly colored fluffy baby bum definitely makes them more fun!
